How to remove and replace image backgrounds privately in your browser
Remove a background
Open the Purgebg background remover, choose an image, and select Remove background. Processing happens on your device. When the preview is ready, download a transparent PNG or choose a color and export the finished image.
Fast and Fine processing
Fast mode is the default and is recommended for most portraits and product photos. Choose Fine processing when hair, fur, narrow gaps, or a complex edge needs a second full-precision pass. Fine mode downloads a larger model and takes longer.
Change the background color
Use a preset such as white, blue, red, green, or gray, or select a custom color. Transparent PNG keeps no background; JPG export uses the selected solid color. Review official size and color requirements before using an image for an ID or application.
Privacy
The remover does not upload the selected image to Purgebg. Model files are downloaded to the browser and inference runs locally. Account data, if you choose to create an account, is handled separately as described in the Privacy Policy.
Troubleshooting
- Use a supported image file and retry if the file is damaged.
- Keep this tab open while the model downloads and processes the image.
- Try Fine mode if Fast mode loses important edge detail.
- Test transparent outputs over light and dark backgrounds to spot edge halos.
- For very large images, allow the browser time to prepare the working copy.
