Why we built it
Background removal should be a direct task: choose an image, get a useful result, and continue your work. Purgebg keeps that core workflow free, without an account or watermark, while established products and platforms continue to change.
Privacy is part of the product
The removal model runs in your browser. Your browser downloads the model, but the photo you choose is not uploaded to Purgebg for processing. This is especially useful for portraits, client work, drafts, and product photographs that you would rather keep on your own device.
What Purgebg can do today
The current tool supports PNG, JPEG, and WebP input, Fast and Fine edge modes, transparent PNG output, and solid-color JPG backgrounds. The free tool does not require registration. Batch processing, developer APIs, and integrations are not available yet and are labelled accordingly.
How we develop the product
We prefer verifiable functionality and plain language over unsupported claims. Examples shown on the site are Purgebg-owned demonstration images, and comparison pages distinguish between confirmed facts and our own assessment.
